Doctoral student in Theory of Culture at
Latvian Academy of Culture
In three months, I had fallen in love with the country
I arrived in Latvia unintentionally, when my Master’s university in Scotland offered me the chance to conduct ethnographic fieldwork for my dissertation at the Latvian Academy of Culture. In three months, I had fallen in love with the country and decided to pursue doctoral studies on the Latvian folklore and national identity. I chose this university for fostering vibrant and creative academic environment, students are inspired and engage in stimulating academic projects. My PhD studies are perceived as original because I offer an outsider’s view on the Latvian culture, but it is the magic of the traditions such as the Midsummer’s Solstice Celebration that makes my research insightful.
